About the Role
As a Legal Intern, you'll join our Legal Operations team and work directly with Sezzle's US Legal Team. You'll see how an in-house legal function runs inside a fast-growing, publicly traded fintech, and you'll get real ownership from day one: preparing and reviewing legal documents, and keeping the team's matters, deadlines, and trackers moving.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Legal Intern who is best in class with a high IQ plus a high EQ. This is a paid, fully remote internship. No prior legal work experience is required; curiosity, ownership, and organization matter more.
What You'll Do
- Support the US Legal Team with day-to-day requests
- Review and organize legal documents such as agreements, notices, and liens, and flag anything unusual
- Draft standard documents and templates under the supervision of counsel
- Keep the legal database current: contracts, filings, and corporate records
- Own trackers for legal matters and deadlines, and send clear status updates
- Coordinate with Compliance, Finance, Operations, and outside counsel to gather what each matter needs
- Write simple checklists and playbooks so repeatable legal work runs smoothly
What You'll Learn
- How US consumer finance and secured transactions work (including UCC Article 9)
- How an in-house legal team manages contracts, filings, and audits
- How to run legal work like a project, with trackers, deadlines, and stakeholders
What We Look For
- Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in Law (Derecho) or a related field
- Advanced written and spoken English, since you'll work daily with US-based teams
- Strong attention to detail and organization; you keep deadlines without being reminded
- Clear written communication and good judgment with confidential information
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
- Comfortable using AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT to boost productivity, research, and communication
Nice to Have
- Exposure to US legal concepts or experience supporting US law firms
- Experience with project management tools (Jira, Asana, Notion, or similar)
- Interest in fintech, payments, or consumer lending
About You
- You have relentlessly high standards - many people may think your standards are unreasonably high. You are continually raising the bar and driving those around you to deliver great results. You make sure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed so they stay fixed.
- You're not bound by convention - your success—and much of the fun—lies in developing new ways to do things.
- You need action - speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk-taking.
- You earn trust - you listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully.
- You have backbone; disagree, then commit - you can respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting. You have conviction and are tenacious. You do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision is determined, you commit wholly.
- You deliver results - you focus on the key inputs and deliver them with the right quality and in a timely fashion. Despite setbacks, you rise to the occasion and never settle.
