## Description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Network & Infrastructure Engineer based in Brazil.**

We are seeking an experienced Network & Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of critical network, firewall, and virtualization infrastructure across two redundant data center racks. In this senior technical role, you will serve as the Tier 3 escalation point, ensuring the stability, security, and performance of a production environment supporting telecommunications services. Your first major project will involve leading the migration of a FortiGate high-availability firewall cluster to a newer hardware generation. You will also oversee Cisco Nexus switching infrastructure and Linux-based KVM virtualization systems. Working alongside infrastructure and telecommunications specialists, you will play a key role in maintaining reliable, resilient, and secure operations. This is an opportunity to take technical ownership of mission-critical systems within a long-term, fully remote engagement.

### Accountabilities

- **Firewall Management and Migration:** Lead the migration of the existing FortiGate HA cluster from FG-201E to FG-121G, including configuration conversion, testing, cutover planning, and rollback procedures while minimizing service disruption.

- **Firewall Administration:** Take ongoing ownership of Fortinet infrastructure, managing security policies, NAT/VIPs, VPN configurations, security profiles, FortiOS upgrades, firmware planning, and periodic firewall rule reviews.

- **Data Center Network Management:** Maintain and manage the Cisco Nexus 9000 switching fabric across both data center racks, including vPC health, VLANs, port configurations, LACP, NX-OS upgrades, configuration backups, and network troubleshooting.

- **Tier 3 Technical Support:** Act as the senior escalation point for complex network, firewall, and KVM virtualization incidents, providing technical guidance and resolving critical infrastructure issues.

- **Virtualization Infrastructure:** Maintain Linux-based KVM environments across Dell and Lenovo servers, overseeing host networking, storage configurations, backups, virtual machine management, and capacity planning.

- **Infrastructure Documentation:** Keep network diagrams, IP addressing plans, configuration records, technical documentation, and operational runbooks accurate and up to date.

- **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Coordinate with telecommunications application specialists to assess and manage the impact of network and firewall changes on critical services, including SBC, DRA/STP, PGW, and IMS workloads.

- **Maintenance and Availability:** Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and a defined on-call rotation to support critical incidents and ensure infrastructure availability.

### Requirements:

- At least **7 years of professional experience** in network and infrastructure engineering, with substantial hands-on production experience across firewall management, data center switching, and Linux-based virtualization.

- **Fortinet FortiGate:** At least 3 years of production experience managing FortiGate environments, including FGCP active-passive HA clusters, heartbeat links, session synchronization, hardware migrations, configuration conversion, and low-downtime cutovers. Strong knowledge of FortiOS upgrades, firmware planning, firewall policies, NAT/VIPs, IPsec site-to-site VPNs, SSL-VPN or ZTNA, VLAN interfaces, and LACP is required. Experience with IPS, application control, web filtering, and firewall log analysis is also essential.

- **Cisco Nexus 9000 / NX-OS:** At least 3 years of hands-on production experience with Cisco Nexus switching infrastructure, including vPC design and troubleshooting, peer-links, keepalives, VLANs, trunks, LACP port-channels, and Spanning Tree. Knowledge of top-of-rack switching, 10/25/100G optics, breakout cables, server uplinks, Layer 3 networking, SVIs, HSRP/VRRP, static routing, OSPF or BGP, NX-OS upgrades, and configuration management is required.

- **KVM Virtualization on Linux:** At least 3 years of production experience managing KVM environments using libvirt, virsh, virt-manager, or Cockpit. Strong knowledge of Linux host networking, bridges, bonding, VLAN tagging, storage pools, SAN connectivity (iSCSI or FC), LVM, and qcow2 is expected. Experience with VM backups, snapshots, live migration, capacity planning, and out-of-band management tools such as Dell iDRAC and Lenovo XClarity/IMM is also required.

- **Technical Documentation:** Ability to produce clear and comprehensive network diagrams, operational runbooks, change records, and infrastructure documentation.

- **Communication:** Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and specialists.

- **Problem-Solving and Autonomy:** Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage complex production infrastructure.

- **Nice to Have:** Experience with FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, IBM Power9 servers, HMC, VIOS, AIX, Lenovo/IBM Storwize-class SAN storage, and tape backup solutions.

- **Automation and Monitoring:** Familiarity with infrastructure automation using Ansible or Python, particularly for NX-OS and FortiOS, as well as monitoring platforms such as Zabbix, PRTG, LibreNMS, or Grafana.

- **Telecommunications Exposure:** Previous experience with telecom or carrier-grade networks, including SIP, Diameter, SS7/SIGTRAN, or GTP, is an advantage.

- **Certifications:** Relevant professional certifications are advantageous, including Fortinet FCP Network Security (formerly NSE 4) or FCSS, CCNP Data Center or Enterprise, and RHCSA/RHCE.

### Benefits:

- **Competitive Compensation:** Attractive remuneration in USD, based on experience and technical expertise, under an independent contractor arrangement.

- **100% Remote Work:** Flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in Latin America, with occasional data center visits planned in advance.

- **Technical Ownership:** Opportunity to take senior-level responsibility for real production infrastructure spanning firewalls, data center networking, and virtualization.

- **High-Impact Project:** Lead a major FortiGate HA migration from FG-201E to FG-121G, with direct responsibility for a critical infrastructure initiative.

- **Telecommunications Exposure:** Work alongside specialized teams supporting complex telecom core workloads, including SBC, DRA/STP, PGW, and IMS.

- **Long-Term Collaboration:** Opportunity to build a stable, long-term professional relationship with potential for expanding technical responsibilities.

- **Dedicated Support:** Clear communication, structured onboarding, and ongoing assistance throughout the engagement, with a dedicated point of contact.
